July 31st - Night Light

Saw this lamp post on the way to town this evening. So after we got back home I took the tripod out to see if I could get a decent shot of it.

July 26th - Hand Laser

Playing with the "laser" again. This time trying to make parallel lines over a 3 dimensional form - in this case Courtney's hand. I wish we could make the lines perfectly parallel. But it was fun.

July 25th - Backlit Leaves

Waiting for the ferry on the way home today, I saw these leaves backlit by the sun hiding in the bushes down by the beach at the ferry terminal. I didn't even notice the spider webs on them until I got home and saw the full size image on the computer.

July 24th - Railroad Tracks

I drove to Ellensburg today to pick up the boys from their Washington Business Week summer camp and as long as I was here I thought I'd shoot something we don't see in Friday Harbor.

July 23rd - Rainbow

I ran out front tonight to shoot a quick shot of the sunset, but then when I turned around I saw this rainbow over the house. I've never seen a rainbow at dusk or sunset before. This photo does not do it justice.

July 22nd - Karaoke

Shannon gets the honor of shooting tonight's photo - This is me and my friend Tim singing Lynyrd Skynrd's "Gimme Three Steps" at karaoke at Herb's. My first time doing this in quite a few years - Tim sings quite often and has a very good voice.

July 21 - Classic Beauty

We saw this beauty parked in town on our way home tonight. I didn't realize when I shot this, just how much like a mirror the polished paint job looked. I'm wishing now I would have shot a few more angles on this beautiful old Cadillac.

July 20th - Hummingbird

I'm breaking the rules a little bit here - this was actually shot on Saturday, but I don't think I'm going to have time for a photo today, and I shot a ton of photos on the photowalk on Saturday so I thought I'd toss this one up today.

July 19th - Paper Clip Dispenser

Whoops! It's midnight... gotta post something. Quick - get out the bronze mirror and throw something on it that might make a halfway interesting reflection. Maybe a little color on the wall behind it... OK, this will do in a pinch. Oh, and forget to change the ISO setting on the camera.

July 18th - Emanata

Today a small group of photographers and I went on our Friday Harbor Photowalk. I can't wait to see everyone's photos. This is one I shot of my shadow on the water and it shows a phenomenon I've seen many times but never photographed - the "sun rays" emanating outward from my head. I don't know what causes them but I'm sure it has something to do with science. Be sure to look at the larger version. Anyway I thought it looked cool, so I enhanced it a bit with photoshop. (but not too much - here's the original)

July 17th - Untitled

untitled
We saw this in a restaurant tonight. It was actually hanging from the ceiling but I rotated the image 90 degrees because I thought it looked interesting this way.

July 16 - More Traffic

Traffic
Shot this tonight over Interstate 405 in Tukwila. This is a bit more traffic than we saw in Friday Harbor last week.

July 12th - Ferry

I went down to the harbor to see if I could get the twilight sky reflecting on the water, but I was too late. And it was pretty breezy too so the reflection would have been blurred. So I shot a photo of the ferry instead. I wanted to give an impression of how windy it was so I left the shutter open for 20 seconds. You can see how blurred the leaves and bushes are as a result of the wind. (and I like the starlight effect on bright lights so that's why the small aperture).

July 11th - Chips and Salsa

Todays photo is my entry for the 2nd assignment for Bootcamp 2 on Strobist.com. Well almost - After looking at all the beautiful photos already there, I thought I should make mine stand out a bit somehow, so it's slightly different from this version here. It's called, "Careful - That Salsa's Got a Bite" , and some of you who have been following my blog this year will recognize a familiar theme there.

July 10th - Ruby Staircase

OK, outta time again. Gotta post something. I've been playing with the laser pointer on my LED flashlight trying to see if I can come up with anything interesting but it's just about midnight so this will have to do. This is the laser pointer skimming the window shade in my office.

July 9th - The New Arrival

Look what arrived today!! This was a freebie (almost) with Apple's Education promo thing they're doing this summer. For students buying an Apple Laptop, they're throwing in $229.00 toward an iPod Touch. Shannon is going to use the new laptop for classes she's taking to earn her Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

July 8th - A Second Helping of Greens

Heading home from the post office today, we passed the the planter in front of the insurance place and noticed these things again. This is the same plant I shot back in January. So I thought I'd shoot them again to see if they look any different. Today it was direct sunlight - in January it was overcast with early morning dew.

July 7th - Ones and Zeros

We are plugged in & wired and we don't notice it so much until the internet goes down and then "POW!" We realize just what hardcore users we are. Today we were offline and after trying this and trying that I finally determined that our wireless router has gone to greener pastures. So we borrowed this one and sure enough, we're back online again. Looking at these wires coming out of the back of it got me thinking of "the information superhighway". Anyone remember that term?

July 6th - Readers

I was taking off my glasses as I walked down the hall tonight and I noticed their shadow on the wall as they caught the light from our mini-spot light fixture in the office. Kinda cool how part of it is shadow and part of it is focused light, brighter than it's surroundings. This is Shannon's shadow holding my glasses.

July 5th - "E"-Dock

I went down to the port docks to button up my folk's boat because it had been airing out all day, and on the way back I couldn't resist stopping to capture this floating building's image and it's reflection.

July 3rd - Patriotic Cupcakes

Once again - no time for much of a photo. Very busy day today and then work went really late. We didn't get out of there til midnight, so it's already the Fourth when I'm posting this, so the photo is kinda fitting. These are the cupcakes we'll be serving at our barbeque tomorrow. (well really today I guess).

July 2nd - Sunshine

We're half way through the year. I had wanted to do a shot with a "1/2" theme today, but we were off-island and we got to mix it up with all the travelers coming to the island for the big weekend. It took us an hour and five minutes to drive the last 2 miles to the ferry dock. Yep - "D" avenue to the Anacortes ferry took 1:05. So we missed the 3:10, and had to leave the car and walk on the 5:05. Exhausted, we had dinner at Friday's Crabhouse and there we met Sunshine, this beautiful bird on his (her?) master's shoulder.

July 1st - Outlets

Funny how time gets away from you, isn't it? Especially when you have to work late. This is me just trying to shoot anything to get a photo for the day.
